Discussion of Park Flier Rules:
Park flier electrics will continue to be permitted to fly at
60-Acres but with restrictions, in the interest of safety. Park fliers will be
restricted to flying over the West 1/4 of the field (as designated by white
poles and now painted lines on the grass). Additionally, the number of park
fliers in the air at one time will be restricted to 4. Additionally, pilots of
the 4 aircraft in the air will be required to stand at the 4 new pilot stations
(marked by painted squares) located at the far West edge of the field with their
backs to the trees. The order of flying will be determined on a first come/first
fly basis. Please coordinate with the other park flier pilots and please be
considerate. Park fliers should plan to approach the new pilot stations from the
West, IE put your AMA card on the board, and then proceed to walk all the way to
the west edge of the mowed field, and then head south (or north) along the edge
of the mowed area to reach the pilot stations, keeping the other planes that are
flying, in sight at all times. Park flier pilots should NEVER walk across the
electric area directly to the pilot stations while there are any park fliers in
the air. This new field usage is much more in standing with existing AMA rules
for power flying and should greatly increase safety at the field.
Park flier electrics will be limited in size to stock aircraft with stock
brushed speed
400 electric motor or smaller. These aircraft should fly in a slow/safe manner.
The Safety Committee will also be able to make exceptions to this size limit
by observing the pilot and aircraft and issuing the pilot and aircraft a SASS
sticker that will designate they are allowed to fly this aircraft at 60-Acres.
These designations are not transferable from pilot to pilot. Each INDIVIDUAL
aircraft and pilot combination will need to be approved by a member of the
safety committee. IE if Bob Smith gets an XYZ with an XXX motor approved to fly
at the field this DOES NOT mean the Jim Johnson can fly his XYZ with a XXX at
60-Acres! He too will need to receive approval by a safety committee member.
The only other exception to the park flier rules are electric assisted/launched
sailplanes. These aircraft are gliders with electric motors which are flown with
the intent of climbing to altitude, disengaging the motor and then soaring.
These aircraft should NOT be flown close to the ground other than to launch and
for landing. They should not be flown low over the field performing aerobatics.
High speed electrics (F5B type) aircraft are NOT permitted at 60-Acres. Their
speed and size do not safely fit with the 'open field format' of 60-Acres. These
aircraft should be flown at a power field such as the Marymoore field.
