Santana Park

From Alan Bangham:

Right next to the Houghton transfer station. I was going by there today and stopped to check it out as I know some people have been flying there.
Since my last visit I have noticed that the whole place has been smoothed out and a lot of it has been planted with grass. Seems like the rest of it is gravel for parking probably. The place is big! I do not know what the county plans for the park but right now it is just open area without any fencing or ball fields whatsoever. Also it seems that development is in slow motion as not much has happened over the last three years.

Right now there is an interesting slope that needs to be exploited, probably at least 75 yards long and 40 feet high facing NW with a little bowl on the northern portion.

Pictures from Russ Young

With nothing to do Thanksgiving morning except smell the turkey cooking, I took a drive to Kirkland to see this potential flying site.  This looks promising....

Go just a little ways past the transfer station (West) and there is a place to park.

This is a composite shot of the "upper slope" that merged 5 pictures together, so it's a little bit "rounded", it's actually more flat than the picture makes it look..  I'm standing just above the "lower" slope looking South.  I've flown on smaller slopes.

Below is the lower slope.  In the distance is the beginnings of of a baseball field.  To the right of where I'm standing, is the makings of one or more soccer fields.  I think this slope faces mostly West.  I've flown smaller slopes.  This would be a great close-in combat hill if the wind works right and we can share with the soccer fields behind where we would fly.

This is the upper slope that faces mostly North / NorthWest

Here is a picture of a hawk that screeched at me the whole time I was walking around.  The pole is in the back of the transfer station area.
